2 Chronicles 24:19-21
Yet He sent prophets to them to bring them back to the LORD; though they testified against them, they would not listen.
Then the Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people and said to them, "Thus God has said, 'Why do you transgress the commandments of the LORD and do not prosper? Because you have forsaken the LORD, He has also forsaken you.'"
So they conspired against him and at the command of the king they stoned him to death in the court of the house of the LORD.

This story outlines God's love for all of us. We are the one that stray
away from God, but He continues to pursue us with His love in order that
we may come back to Him. Yet, it's us who reject His offer and walk the path
of evil by trampling His love, killing it viciously.
This story is the story of Jesus Christ bearing the cross and dying on it.
Here, Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who counseled Joash to be
the king that followed God's ways and thus strengthened the nation, speaks
boldly God's offer to bring the people back to Him. But it resulted in
being stoned to death. What a contradicting ending. This displays the
evil in all of us and how ignorant and devastating we can be.
I pray that I would have the spiritual eyes to recognize the people of
God when they speak God's love. I also pray that I would have the boldness
of Zechariah to speak God's love to the lost generation of people in the
hope that they would return to God ... even if it means I have to pay
the price because then I would be following the footsteps of Jesus whose
sole purpose of coming to this world is to pass on the amazing love of
God for all of us.
