1 Kings 12:8,19,28b
But he forsook the counsel of the elders which they had given him, and consulted with the young men who grew up with him and served him.
So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day.
So the king consulted, and made two golden calves

As a leader of God's people, sustaining a personal dependence on God
and seeking His wisdom to know the right counsels is crucial when
making decisions that will benefit the people God put under the leader's
care. When such wisdom is forgone and the leader relies souly on his own
views, then the outcome is not only detrimental, but also long lasting as we
can see in verse 19.
It also appears that in those days, the tendency of the kings was to rely
on the wrong sources of counsel for making decisions for God's people. Instead
of going to God for His guidance, they seek counsels from others who eventually
led them astray.
God is eager to shower down His wisdom only if we seek after Him; I am
suspicious that our times here in US now are not much different from
then where we're so naturally relying on our own plans and views, deceiving
ourselves to think that we're living out the best of our lives.
