[S] 1 Corinthians 15:56-58 --
56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law;
57but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
[O] Verse 56 was a mind twister for me. After reading a few times what I concluded was that through the law the sin gains more power over us. It is so easy to get myself wrapped around the law -- the rules and regulations which on the surface is required to sustain order but I quickly get into the mode of making it to rule over my life and that's where it can also power me over into sinning not because I began to cheat on others, per se, but because I begin to judge others and try to live my life according to achieving certain rules or not rather than to live in the grace and love of God. The latter two verses talk about how I may win over this -- through our Lord Jesus Christ and what He's done for me. This is about His amazing love and care for me and not about following a bunch of rules to judge us by. This is the reason why He's taken the suffering Cross for me and then to raise up from the dead to pave the pathway for me to enter into His presence and not be stuck in my sinful or lawful state.
[A] Lately, I've been challenged by others who seem to lack some compassion and then what's funny is I quick turn around and judge them (no compassion). So, practice compassion to those who lack compassion toward me.
[P] Dear God, fill my heart with You compassion such that it'll overflow into other people's lives. I know You can do that because I believe in the power of the Cross. In Jesus' name. Amen.
